Lookbook: Lady Stripes

Good morning and happy Wednesday my loves! Hope you’re all having a great week so far and keeping warm because it has been super cold here in Jozi this week! Why has Winter only hit us in full force now when it’s nearing the end of July?? For those who don’t know yet, I’ve finally created a Facebook page for my blog! Actually I’ve had it for some time now but I just haven’t published it, oh I don’t know, maybe because I was embarrassed or I had a fear that no one would like my page! Silly silly me! πŸ™‚ So please go and like my page and share with your friends, I would really appreciate that. I’m also running a little giveaway on my blog, I’m giving away a pack of 6 sheet masks, basically my holy grail product that I cannot live without. I use it twice a week, it helps to keep my skin, soft and supple. If you want to give it a try,Β click here to enter and follow the simple instructions.

I haven’t worn this navy coat this whole year because it hasn’t been cold enough to but this weekend really got me pulling out all my winter clothes because it was freezing! I decided to wear it with my stripes and a black skirt with stockings of course (it’s too cold not to). I used to think that no one should ever wear horizontal striped clothes because it made people look fat but I was so wrong, horizontal stripes look so much better than vertical stripes. There’s something about vertical stripes that just doesn’t look right for me unless it’s trousers then I think it looks fantastic! I actually wanted to wear my hair in a low bun for this with red lips but I was in a bit of a hurry and I had just washed my hair so it wasn’t quite behaving the way I wanted it to. What do you think?

Lookbook: The Burberry Trench

Hi my loves! Hope you all had a great Monday! Just a little update, it was my 5 year anniversary with E yesterday, which explains why I didn’t publish any posts yesterday. If you follow me on Snapchat, you’ll know that we spent our day at Harties, we took the cable car right to the top and we had lunch on the top of the mountain. The view was breathtaking, the sun was shining bright and it was definitely the best Monday in my books. We came back to Joburg at around 3pm and E wanted to take me to Sandton City to pick out a present but I was perfectly happy without anything material (yes I know!). We ended our perfect day at the Four Seasons Westcliffe for dinner at Flames. The dinner was extra special as the restaurant wished us a happy anniversary with special dessert. It was a very happy anniversary indeed. πŸ™‚ Thank you everyone for the beautiful wishes, it meant so much to us and it was super sweet.

Now, onto the essence of this post, which is my 4th look in collaboration with Ford South Africa. As an inner island girl, Winter has never been my favourite season because the city becomes quieter, people become less colourful and even the trees look bare and brown. As much as I dislike Winter itself, I cannot say the same about Winter fashion; the layers, the faux fur, the various luxurious textures and the beautiful coats. Today my post is all about the trench coat, specifically,Β The Burberry Trench Coat –Β the most iconic trench coat of its time, which goes without saying that it is absolutely timeless.

The trench coat was initially designed for war in the 1800’s. Mr Thomas Burberry, who founded his company during that time invented gabardine, which is a method of weaving fabric that ultimately makes it rainproof or waterproof. The test came for Burberry when a Norwegian explorer, Mr Amundsen conquered the South Pole using Burberry equipment. The rest made history. The company was later granted with a royal warrant and the Burberry trench coat was adorned by the Royals, both Prince Charles and Princess Diana were fans. Give us a reason not to be?

One thing I love about the classic Burberry Trench is that there are so many ways one can wear it, whether it’s with jeans and a t-shirt or a beautiful cocktail dress and heels, there’s a trench coat for everyone and every occasion. That is why I think it’s an essential piece in anyone’s wardrobe. I decided to pair up my Burberry Trench Coat with a short black dress, very plain with beaded Peter Pan collar and nude peep-toe heels. The Trench Coat just adds a very fine and classic touch to the whole outfit. Of course I couldn’t leave the house without my Burberry cross-body bag which adds a pop of colour to the whole outfit. I really hope you enjoy this look!

Happy Friday my loves! Hope you all had a great week! I’m certainly ready for the weekend, I’ve had a killer busy week and now I can finally relax this weekend and reflect on the past week. Of course I can’t end this week without a Friday post, which is my third outfit in collaboration with Ford Fiesta. Since I’m test driving a blue car, I cannot possibly go by without wearing a blue dress in at least one of my posts. I feel that blue is such an electric colour, one can get so much vibrance and energy from it. In this post I’m wearing a cobalt blue peplum dress from Top Shop (for some reason I’ve been pulling out all my Top Shop clothes lately) but I promise that this will be the last Top Shop item for this collaboration. πŸ™‚

Yesterday, I was honoured to be one of the judges for the Caxton Publishing House annual awards, I took part in judging the fashion category. If you’re unfamiliar with them, Caxton House publishes 12 magazines here in South Africa including Rooi Rose, People, Woman and Home etc. It was such a great learning experience for me since I’m fairly new in this industry (print publication), even though I’ve been blogging for about 4 years, there’s life aside from law after all and a great life indeed! πŸ™‚

If you follow me on Snapchat, I mentioned that I went to a very important meeting this week. I won’t be giving you any more details until the time is right but I feel super excited and blessed right now. So many opportunities are coming up for the blog and I absolutely cannot wait to share it with you all! Hard work pays off!
