Ding Tai Fung Shanghai

Hi everyone! Hope you all have a great week ahead! If there’s one thing that makes my day without fail, every single time, that would be food… well and also puppies. I’m a huge fan of great food and especially enjoyed with great company, that’s why I always make an effort to go to at least one famous restaurant when I travel. Since I was in Shanghai, China, I couldn’t say no to eating at Ding Tai Fung in XinTianDi. If you don’t know what that is, it’s basically the only asian restaurant that holds a Michelin Star and various celebrities from all over the world have tried and tested the delicacies offered by Ding Tai Fung. The most famous dish is the “Xiao Long Bao” which is a small, delicate, steamed bun with a filling of your choice but that’s not all, it contains soup. The correct way to eating these soup-filled buns is to very carefully place one on your soup spoon, bite off a small piece of the skin and then proceed to slurp the soup out. Once you’re done drinking the soup then you eat the rest of the bun. 🙂 Simple no?

The Xiao Long Bao (small cage bun – direct translation) is not the only dish Ding Tai Fung offers though, they also offer various other dishes, noodles, fried rice and traditional Chinese desserts. We like to try the food from Ding Tai Fung everywhere we go and so far it has been the same. The chefs who make the Xiao Long Bao are only trained to master the art of making the Xiao Long Bao, which means they ensure that the pastry is the perfect thickness and the bun is perfectly crafted to ensure that no soup is leaked out during the steaming process. Hope you enjoy the photos and it made your Monday to some extent! 🙂

Health Outing at Angelberry

Happy Monday! Hope you all had a well-rested weekend! If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you know that I’m a huge fan of a healthy and fit lifestyle. Last week, we went to a little gem of a place in Midrand, called Angelberry. Angelberry is a UK brand of frozen yogurt and they offer a selection of flavours and toppings. You can pretty much have it any way you prefer, in a cup, in a cone, you can have it blended… and the best part is that it is healthy! Not only can you keep track of how many calories you are consuming with their nifty nutrition information guide but you can listen to your favourite tunes while you’re enjoying your frozen yogurt!

Where is this heavenly place you may ask? It is on the upper level of Kyalami on Main, Midrand. There’s a PnP in the centre, as well as a food lovers and also next door there is a doggy parlour.

Hidden Valley Overture Restaurant Review

Happy Monday my loves! Where did the first two months of this year go?? I cannot believe how quickly this year is going and now we’re in March already! It’s my birthday month and since my birthday is at the end of the month, I generally do something throughout the month to celebrate my birthday and spoil myself a little (live every birthday like it’s your last) 🙂 I keep changing my mind about what I want to do on my actual birthday, initially E and I were going to go overseas for my birthday but now work (duty) calls so we might not be able to go so early for our trip! I’m not too sad though because I’ve been away for almost a month and I felt so home sick and I missed my bed so much!

While we were in Cape Town last month, we paid a little day visit to Hidden Valley Wine Estate and to my (favourite) restaurant Overture. E and I discovered this restaurant almost 4 years ago when he took me there for our 1 year anniversary and I absolutely loved it. Since then, we try to go every time we are in Cape Town. The menu is different every time we go and the wine pairing is just stunning. It honestly feels like a private dining experience even though when you are there, the restaurant is likely to be full or busy. The staff are very attentive, the food is always gorgeous and colourful and the view is just breathtaking. We took some photos of the food and the restaurant itself, and took photos for a lookbook post but I’ll leave that to another post later this week. 🙂

(I was so excited to start eating my food, I forgot to take pictures of my starter)
