Beauty: My 10 updated makeup essentials

Hi everyone! I am fully aware how bad I’ve been at this for the last couple weeks but you must bare with me because Summer is coming and I’ve been really focused on my body lately. Which means, I’ve been going to gym every single day, putting more effort into my nutritional well-being and consciously forcing myself to drink more water during the day. It really doesn’t come easy when I work full time and have quite a demanding job (not always but most of the time).

My makeup routine hasn’t changed much but my product list has definitely changed, as you can probably tell from my previous “what makeup I wore” posts. I’m so excited that Summer is finally coming, it’s great waking up to the sun rising and warmer air. Since this season is all about subtle hues and since I’m also rather crazy about soft natural colours, with soft pinks and glosses everywhere, here are my 10 updated makeup essentials (in no particular order):

1. Bobbi Brown Moisture Rich Foundation SPF15

I know that I said previously that I’m no longer using foundation but I popped into Bobbi Brown to browse through their Art Sticks a month ago and I decided to pick up this foundation. Since I have dry skin, this foundation is absolutely perfect for me, it has a light to medium coverage and gives off a very dewy look. It keeps my skin hydrated and doesn’t leave dry patches. I’m not sure if it’s a good idea to build up coverage with this foundation because if you overdo it, it can appear quite oily.

2. Dior Snow BB Cream

No, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get over this BB cream. Hands down still the best BB cream I’ve used and I’ve used many brands before, I was that girl at the starting line when BB creams first became a thing! 🙂

3. MAC Cosmetics Powder Blush in Melba

I previously thought that Pink Swoon was my IT shade but I was so wrong (ok not really but please forgive me). Melba is definitely my now IT shade, I absolutely cannot get over it. It’s a matte powder blush and I’m pretty sure that it suits any skin tone. It looks slightly nude-peach in the pan but when you put it on, it’s like “where have you been my whole life?!”

4. Fix+

Again, this is just one of those products, if it’s not a staple in your routine then you’re missing out.

5. MAC Cosmetics Pro-long Wear Concealer

I’ve probably gone through 4 bottles already, I’ve recently just picked up another one because the one I’m using is almost finished. There’s nothing I don’t love about this product, the consistency, the pump nozzle and how long it lasts in the bottle and on your face. It’s my ultimate to-go-to concealer. TIP: It does wonders for those under-eye bags and circles if you mix a a pump of this with the strobe liquid!

6. Clean & Clear oil absorbing sheets

That shine after half a day on my forehead drives me crazy so I literally keep a pack in the car, one in every handbag! It’s definitely an essential for me, especially now that summer is coming and our skin excretes more oil. I want to look natural and dewy, not oily! These are not those rice paper type of absorbing sheets, I hate those because they’re so thin and literally a thin piece of paper. These are sheets, slightly stretchy and NOT pieces of paper. You can’t get them here in SA but there is a website that sells them, will find out and put it up for everyone.

7. MAC Cosmetics Patent Lip Polish

I’ve posted about this many many many times before but I am still so obsessed with it! It has an amazing texture that’s not sticky and a slight shine but not oily. The colour payoff is quite subtle, so don’t expect a matte lipstick type of colour payoff.

8. MAC Cosmetics Extreme Dimension Lash Mascara

I’ve used mine for quite some time now but it has one of those formulae that gets better as you use it. I didn’t quite enjoy it in the beginning so I stopped using for a while but started using it again and found it absolutely amazing! You can totally build it up and the formula is super light, which is great for me because I need it to hold a curl.

9. MAC Cosmetics Studio Finish Concealer

I’ve always used matte bronzer to contour but using a creamy concealer in a few shades darker than your own shade to contour is so much better! It’s super easy to blend and stays put for ages!

10. DiorShow Maximizer Lash Plumping Serum

Again, this is a holy grail product for me. I’ve posted about this numerous times and believe it or not, I’ve had mine for 8 months already and still isn’t dried out or anything! It thickens and primes your lashes before you apply mascara. You can also use it at night before bed as a booster serum but I’ve never tried that before. If you’re as obsessed about lashes as I am, this is a definite MUST BUY! 🙂

Hope you enjoyed this post! What are your makeup essentials?

With love…xxx
